1. NDA

NDA is one of the most sought after defence entrance exams in the country. NDA recruitment is conducted for admission to Army, Navy and Air Force wings of NDA and Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). NDA is conducted twice a year. The exam is conducted two stages - written exam and SSB Interview. Around 4 lakh aspirants sit for NDA every year, out of which approximately 6000 are called for SSB Interview

NDA Eligibility

The eligibility of a candidate willing to appear for NDA is evaluated on the basis of four different categories.

Apart from Indian origin, candidates from other countries can also appear for NDA. For the same the candidate must either be An India citizen A citizen of Bhutan or, A citizen of Nepal

Tibetan refugees who came over to India before January 1, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India are also eligible to appear for NDA. An Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India are also eligible to appear for NDA exam. Note: The candidate from other countries other than India must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

NDA (2) Selection Procedure
  • The Union Public Service Commission shall prepare a list of candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination as fixed by the commission at their discretion

  • Such candidates shall appear before a Services Selection Board for Intelligence and Personality Test where candidates for the Army/Navy wings of the NDA and 10+2 Cadet Entry

  • Scheme of Indian Naval Academy will be assessed on Officers Potentiality and those for the Air Force in Pilot Aptitude Test and for Officers Potentiality

  • PABT applicable to candidates with Air Force as first choice would also be conducted for all SSB qualified candidates with one of the choice as Air Force subject to their eligibility and if they are so willing

  • Two-stage selection procedure based on Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test has been introduced at Selection Centers/Air Force Selection Boards

  • All the candidates will be put to stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centers/Air Force Selection Boards

  • Only those candidates who qualify at stage one will be admitted to the second stage/remaining tests

  • Those candidates who qualify stage II will be required to submit the original certificates along with one photocopy each of (I) original matriculation pass certificate or equivalent in support of date of birth, (ii) original 10+2 pass certificate or equivalent in support of educational qualification

  • The candidates applying for the examination should ensure that they fulfill all eligibility conditions for admission to the examination

  • Their admission at all the stages of the examination will be purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions

Note: Candidates should note that there will be penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers

Mathematics:

Concept of set, operations on sets, venn diagrams, types of matrices, operations on matrices, determinant of a matrix, trigonometrically ratios, trigonometric identities sum and difference formulae, distance formula. equation of a line in various forms, angle between two lines, distance of a point from a line, equation of a circle in standard and in general form, composite functions, one to one, onto and inverse functions, notion of limit, standard limits, etc.

GAT (General Aptitude Test):

English : Vocabulary, grammar and usage, comprehension and cohesion in extended text to test the candidate’s proficiency in English. It tests the candidate’s understanding of English and use of words.

General Knowledge: This section contains topics from the physics, chemistry, general science, geography, current events, history, freedom movement, etc.

Selection Procedure (SSB Interview):
  • Candidates who will shortlisted after qualifying the written test have to go through the SSB interview round.
  • The NDA SSB interview will comprise of two stages, i.e. stage 1 and stage 2.
  • In stage 1, candidates will have to clear the OIR (Officer Intelligence Rating) and PP & DT (Picture Perception & Description Test).
  • Candidates will be selected for stage 2 on the basis of candidate’s performance in the OIR and PP & DT tests.
  • Interview, Group Testing Officer Tasks, Psychology Tests and the Conference will be conducted in the second stage.
  • SSB interview round will be conducted over four to five days.
  • After being recommended at the SSB, candidates will have to go through the medical examination round.
