2. AFCAT

The Air Force Common Admission Test is an examination conducted by Indian Air Force which can be taken after graduation for selection in Indian Air force in Flying Branch, Technical Branch or Ground Branch

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria

Candidate must fulfill the basic minimum eligibility criteria prescribed by the concerned authority to appear in AFCAT exam. One must comply with the following requirements:

1. Flying Branch
  • Candidate must have obtained 60% marks in graduation in any discipline with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or B.E./B. Tech. or

  • Must have secured 60% marks in Section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India).

  • Candidate should not be born earlier than 2nd July 1995 and not later than 1st July 1999.

2. Ground Duty (Technical)
  • Minimum 60% marks in graduation level in any discipline with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or

  • Completed four-year graduation or integration PG in Engineering/Technology or

  • Must obtain 60% marks in Section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India).

  • Candidate should not be born earlier than 2nd July 1993 and not later than 1st July 1999.

3. Ground Duty (Non-Technical)
  • Must be secured 60% marks in Graduation level in any discipline and 60% marks in Section A & B examination of Aeronautical Society of India or Associate Membership of Institute Engineers (India).

  • The candidate should not be born earlier than 2nd July 1993 and not later than 1st July 1999.

Selection Procedure:

Those selected in the online written test will have to clear the interview round also. The selected aspirants who clear both the rounds will finally be eligible for IAF course cum post.

Air Force Commission:

The candidates who are selected in AFCAT will be commissioned either as ‘Short Service Commission” or “Permanent Commission” in Indian Air Force. Those candidates who are selected for SSC in Flying Branch are engaged for 14 years and those who are selected for Ground Duty and Technical Branches are engaged for 10 years which can be extended for the next 4 years depending on willingness, requirement and availability of vacancies. Those candidates who are selected for Permanent Commission would continue to serve until the age of superannuation.

Training:

The duration training of Flying and Technical Branches is 74 weeks and that of Ground Duty Branch is 52 weeks.

Exam Pattern
  • Time Duration: AFCAT Exam duration will be 2 hours.

  • Total Questions: The total number for the question wills 100.

  • Total Marks: Each question will 3 marks.

  • Negative Marking: Each wrong answer 1 mark will be deducted.

Mode of Exam: Candidates can give the AFCAT Exam through Online Mode.

General Awareness: History, Basic Sciences, Geography, Sports, Defence, Culture, Current Affairs, Environment, Civics, Politics, Art, etc.

Numerical Ability: Decimal Fraction, Average, Ratio & Proportion, Profit & Loss, Simple Interest, Percentage, Simplification.

Verbal Ability in English: Comprehension, Sentence Completion, Synonyms, Testing of Vocabulary, Antonyms, Error Detection, etc.

Reasoning and Military Aptitude Test section: Verbal Skills and Spatial Ability

AFCAT Selection Process:
  • Short listing of the candidates will be done on the basis of marks scored in the written examination.
  • Candidates shortlisted on the basis of written exam will have to face Screening Test i.e. Stage-I Testing.
  • The screening test will include Officer Intelligence Rating Test and Picture Perception and Discussion Test.
  • Those who will qualify the Stage-I, will be called for Stage-II Testing.
  • Stage II will include Psychological Test, Group Test to check interactive ability, personal conversation with Interviewing Officer.
  • The entire process will take at least 5-6 days.
  • The candidates who will qualify the SSB/Interview will go through the medical examination.
  • At the end, an all India merit list will be prepared on the basis of written test and interview.
